How Can We Turn Community Outings from Stressful to Successful?
Real life happens outside the clinic. We plan and practice grocery runs, barbershops, restaurants, parks, churches, and more—then collect data to improve each time.
The outing plan we use
- Preview: Photos/visual maps, role-play, and “if-then” plans.
 - Predictable rhythm: Short lists, clear jobs (push cart, hold list), and break spots.
 - Reinforcement: Tokens toward a small treat or preferred activity after success.
 - Coping scripts: What to do if it’s loud, crowded, or plans change.

Mini-FAQ
- Q: My child bolts in parking lots—help?
 - A: We teach hand-holding at a “stop line,” use visual rules, and reinforce safe walking in real parking lots with extra staff at first.
